Red & Turquoise?? That doesn’t match!
When I learned that I would have the opportunity to design a table top for the Southern Bridal Show, I immediately began to search around me for inspiration. It came later that day when I went to the movies with my friend Brooke. She asked me how business was and I asked her about her boyfriend of three years, Danny. Brooke and Danny had been a year younger than me at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and I was friends with both of them before they became a couple. I started to describe the exciting opportunity I was just given and noticed Brooke’s shared excitement for me. I knew then that I just had to design a table for her and Danny. After all, we already had discussed how I would help them plan their eventual wedding and Brooke had already given me several details that she knew she wanted. They would be my inspiration and the table would be a reflection on them and their relationship. I knew I had to make it perfect for them!
Once I found my inspiration I began with the most important choice in design - color scheme. Danny being Chinese American made landing on the color red an obvious and easy choice since red is a central color in Chinese weddings. I then began exploring what colors could be paired with red that wouldn’t be as obvious or easy. Brooke had always said that she wanted to use bold and fun colors for her wedding, and after hearing from Sam that the pairing was going to be the next big trend in weddings, I went with turquoise. I’ve always liked being on the cutting edge. Several people questioned the decision. One planner told me I would have to convince her that the pairing was a good idea. Everyone knows red and turquoise don’t match!
But I was convinced that they did, and so was Sam. So I went to some of the best vendors in the business and described my vision. After color scheme, table decor is probably the next biggest decision when designing for a wedding. I chose to work with Tre Bella Flowers because I knew that their style is chic and sophisticated and they know how to deliver exactly what you want. Brooke had told me that she wouldn’t want anything over the top, just simple and lovely - Tre Bella to a "T".
I’ve worked with Tre Bella on several occasions and every time I’ve worked with them on a wedding, they have been punctual, professional, and their work flawless. On one occasion, the venue did not allow the type of candles Tre Bella had brought to use in the centerpieces. Instead of getting frustrated and arguing with the venue, Tre Bella used the extra flower petals they had brought to fill the vases intended for the candles. The effect was just as pretty, and only took a few minutes to accomplish.
I knew that my instincts for the table were right the second I sat down with Rachael. Rachael is one of the three Price sisters who own and operate Tre Bella Flowers, Tre Bella Gifts, and Tre Bella Bridal. Rachael made me feel instantly at ease and when I began telling her my ideas for the table, she said "We can do that." She asked all of the right questions: what type of flowers did I like, what types of containers would work for the visual I was creating, etc. etc. She thought of everything, even the smallest details. When I explained to her that I wanted to wrap fabric around the vases, she asked what type of fabric I was using for the linens so that she could use a similar texture. She never criticized my ideas, but offered helpful suggestions. She gave me realistic expectations, and then exceeded them. The final result was not only what we discussed, it was gorgeous!
A bride who knows what she wants will get it from Tre Bella. And Tre Bella will find the right style for the bride who does not know what she wants. They will never make you feel like they know more about your wedding than you do, and they will work hard to make sure that your flowers are fresh and beautiful. I can’t wait to work with them again!
The entire experience of creating a table for my friends was fun and stimulating. I thought about Brooke and Danny with every detail, down to adding chopsticks and a sushi plate to the table setting and the story of their relationship to the menu cards. When I showed Brooke pictures of the finished product, her face lit up and I could tell she was in love. She thought the color scheme was perfect: the black and white accents in the tableware and flowers made the red and turquoise pop and grab her attention. And she loved the little details added for her and Danny. When we finished looking through the pictures, she turned to me and said "Well, you are definitely planning our wedding now!"
I had to thank Classic Party Rentals and Party Tables for helping me complete the entire look of the table.
So yes, red and turquoise DO match!!!
